So I just came from seeing Avatar, the new James Cameron flick. We had to settle for the 2D version, because all of the IMAX and 3D shows were sold out (this didn't come as too much of a surprise). The first hour or so was amazing, due in large part to the dazzling visual effects. All in all, I think there was a lot left to be desired though. The story of the native people (aliens) was powerful, but I found the dialogue to be pretty cheesy throughout. Also, the ending was way too drawn out and typical of Hollywood. I'd be hard-pressed to give Avatar 3 stars out of 4, but I'm comfortable giving 2 and a half.
